Biography

Stephanie A. Russo, MD, PhD, is a pediatric hand and peripheral nerve surgeon at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She is a member of the interdisciplinary Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Program, the Hand and Upper Extremity Program, and the Honda Center for Gait Analysis and Mobility Enhancement.

Dr. Russo specializes in caring for children with brachial plexus birth injuries and other peripheral nerve injuries, spinal cord injuries, spasticity, congenital hand or upper limb differences, and arthrogryposis. She believes in providing individualized care to fit the unique needs of each patient. She utilizes both nonoperative and operative management strategies with shared decision-making approaches.

As an expert in upper extremity motion analysis, Dr. Russo’s research interests include developing and utilizing three- dimensional motion capture techniques for assessment of upper extremity function. She seeks to improve care for her patients through research employing both objective outcome measures and patient-reported outcomes measures. Dr. Russo has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented her research at national and international conferences.

Dr. Russo received her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and her doctoral degree in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware. She completed her residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Hamot. Dr. Russo then completed fellowship in Hand, Nerve, and Microsurgery at Washington University in St. Louis in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She completed an additional fellowship in Pediatric Hand and Upper Limb Surgery at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Russo is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), American Society for Peripheral Nerve (ASPN), American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS), Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA), Plexus Nexus, Orthopedic Research Society (ORS), Ruth Jackson Orthopedic Society (RJOS), and the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society (GCMAS).
