Biography

Henry W. Fields, DDS, MS, MSD, is Chief of Orthodontics at Nationwide Children's Hospital and a Professor of Orthodontics at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.

Dr. Fields is from Tipton, Iowa and graduated from Dartmouth College. He earned his dental degree and a master's in pediatric dentistry at the University of Iowa. He then completed a master's in orthodontics at the University of Washington before joining the departments of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. At UNC, he was named Professor and served as Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Pediatric Dentistry Graduate Program Director.

In 1991, Fields was appointed Dean at The Ohio State University and served until 2001. Currently, he is professor and holds the Vig-Williams Chair of Orthodontics. Fields continues to provide private patient care in orthodontics and is an attending and Chief of Orthodontics at Nationwide Children's.

His current research interests center on diagnostic systems and decisions, treatment outcomes and health literacy. Past and current scholarly interests have resulted in approximately 100 papers, two books in multiple editions and numerous book chapters. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for several journals, including Pediatric Dentistry, the Angle Orthodontist and the AJODO.
