Clarabelle A. DeVries, MD, FAAOS, is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and associate residency program director at Nationwide Children’s. She cares for infants, children, and adolescents with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and is committed to treatment plans tailored to each child’s needs, growth and long-term mobility.
Dr. DeVries’ clinical interests include developmental hip dysplasia, clubfoot, cerebral palsy and other complex orthopedic conditions affecting the lower extremities. Her practice also includes care for fractures, sports injuries, limb length differences and limb differences, with an emphasis on helping children function as fully and comfortably as possible as they grow.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. DeVries has contributed to peer-reviewed research focused on pediatric orthopedic outcomes and best practices. Her publications have addressed topics including patellofemoral pain and instability, slipped capital femoral epiphysis, pediatric bone health and other issues relevant to improving care for children with orthopedic conditions.
Outside of clinical research, Dr. DeVries has devoted her time to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within the field of orthopedics. She helped develop and expand a pipeline program to introduce underrepresented groups to the field of orthopaedics. She also commits her time to orthopaedic education, participating in AAOS education committees, creating educational content for medical students, and serving as associate residency program director at Nationwide Children’s.
Dr. DeVries earned her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She subsequently completed her Orthopedic Surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis – Barnes-Jewish Hospital, followed by fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopaedics at Rady Children’s Hospital - San Diego.
She is board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS) and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
