Meet Josephine and Jaxton

Had my twin boy and girl at 29 weeks and 6 days on December 8, 2024. Baby A, our girl, weighed 3 pounds, 2 ounces, and Baby B, our boy, weighed 3 pounds, 9 ounces.

I went to my local emergency room because of vaginal bleeding and blood clots and began having contractions. I was transferred by ambulance to The Ohio State University, where I learned I had a placental abruption. I was given fluids and steroids in an effort to delay labor for a few days. At the time, I was 4 centimeters dilated and 90% effaced, and doctors told me that Baby A’s water had broken.

I ended up experiencing fluid overload and began swelling all over. I also had difficulty breathing and needed oxygen. Then, on Sunday morning, December 8, I had an emergency C-section. Josephine “Josie” was born first, followed by Jaxton.

Josie spent 93 days in the NICU, and Jaxton spent 60 days there. They both required CPAP support. Josie also developed NEC, but the wonderful nurses and doctors caught it early. It set her back for a while, but both babies continued to grow stronger.

Now, as Josie and Jaxton approach their first birthday, you would never know they had such a difficult beginning. I’m so grateful for Nationwide Children’s and the care they received.

Our NICU provides specialized care and support for premature and medically complex newborns and their families.
