Hydroxyurea Clinic

The Hydroxyurea Clinic at Nationwide Children's Hospital follows children with sickle cell disease who take hydroxyurea, the only disease modifying medication for sickle cell disease. This medication is effective in reducing the frequency of pain crises, acute chest syndrome episodes, the frequency of blood transfusions and the need for hospitalization, which are common complications of sickle cell disease.
