Dental Health & Cardiac Surgery

Children with congenital heart disease (CHD) need healthy teeth and gums at all times, but this is especially important before heart surgery. You/your child’s care team may ask for dental clearance before a surgery can be performed.

To keep you/your child safe:

• You/your child will need a full dental check up, including X rays, before surgery.
• Because it can be hard to get an appointment quickly, our team has created a list of dental providers that will see our patients before surgery. 
• Heart surgery cannot move forward until the dental team confirms you/your child’s mouth is healthy and ready.
