Patients who are not candidates for epilepsy surgery and have not become seizure-free after being on at least two different seizure medications are candidates for our Complex Epilepsy Clinic. An integral part of our Epilepsy Center, the Complex Epilepsy Clinic works with patients and their families to identify other treatment options.
Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of:
- Pediatric Epileptologists
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioners
- Clinical Pharmacists
- Pediatric Epilepsy Social Workers
- Educators/Social Workers from the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio
- Pediatric Neuropsychologists
Caring for a child with epilepsy can be challenging, especially when seizures continue despite pharmacological treatment. The heart of our program is our attention to the educational and psychosocial needs of children with epilepsy and tailoring treatment to the individual in hopes of improving seizure control.
Clinic visits will involve a consultation with a pediatric epileptologist and a pediatric nurse practitioner followed by other needed members of the complex epilepsy team. Clinic visits are likely to last more than one hour due to the complexity of the care. When available, records are reviewed ahead of time. We strive to provide cutting-edge treatment options for patients with epilepsy; if applicable enroll patients in medication trials; and to provide a one-visit second opinion.
Research helps us learn more about health and find better ways to prevent and treat diseases. From studies at the molecular level to the behavioral level, Neurosciences faculty members are investigating how neurological and neuromuscular disorders and conditions develop and working toward new treatment and prevention options.
