COLUMBUS, Ohio – Catherine Dent Krawczeski, MD, has joined Nationwide Children’s Hospital as division chief of Cardiology.
“Dr. Krawczeski’s skillful leadership, exceptional experience and energy will advance the Heart Center’s tradition of excellence and innovation as we pursue best outcomes for our cardiology patients and their families,” says John A. Barnard, MD, president of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
An accomplished physician-scientist, Dr. Krawczeski’s research primarily focuses on acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery and interventions for congenital heart disease. She has served as a principal investigator or co-investigator on more than 10 funded grants since 2004, with seven supported by the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Krawczeski, who will also be a professor at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and invited papers, and has lectured extensively nationally and internationally. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
She received her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She served as a pediatric resident and pediatric chief resident at St. Louis Children’s Hospital at Washington University, where she completed fellowships in pediatric critical care medicine and pediatric cardiology.
Dr. Krawczeski was most recently the James Baxter and Yvonne Craig Wood Endowed Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and director of the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, California. She dramatically grew the size of the faculty for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and its clinical and investigative expertise. She was also a professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
“Dr. Krawczeski brings an international reputation as a clinical investigator, tremendous clinician, and effective educator. I am excited to have her as our new chief of cardiology,” said Timothy Feltes, MD, FACC, who has led the division since 2001. He will remain a co-director of The Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s through the summer of 2019.
