Nationwide Childrens Hospital Staff Exceeds Goal for Operation Feed Campaign

June 28, 2011

While times may be tough, the staff at Nationwide Children’s Hospital has come together to help give back to the central Ohio community. Through Nationwide Children’s 2011 Operation Feed Campaign, staff exceeded its original 2011 goal and raised more than 184,000 meals for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

“We are thrilled to see the overwhelming employee support through this year’s Operation Feed Campaign, said Angela Lyons, co-chair of the campaign. “We all know it is a bit more difficult these days; however, we all came together to help fight hunger right here in our community.”

Representatives from the Mid-Ohio Foodbank attended a check presentation at Nationwide Children’s on June 20 where campaign captains presented a check for $90,117.49. There were several ways staff could raise funds for the Operation Feed Campaign: employee payroll deductions, food and money donations and a scrub sale.

“The need for emergency food assistance is at a record high,” said Joan Lloyd, Operation Feed Campaign Director, Mid-Ohio Foodbank. “We continue to be grateful for the organizations here in central Ohio that participate in the campaign and give back to their community.”

About Operation Feed
For over 30 years, Operation Feed has raised food and funds that provide assistance to individuals and families in need. Each year, Mid-Ohio Foodbank joins forces with local businesses, schools, civic groups and individuals to raise critically needed resources through a community-wide drive.

When everyone does a little, the Foodbank can do a lot! Mid-Ohio Foodbank distributed nearly 40 million pounds of food last year, enabling its partner agencies across 20 counties to provide food for more than 51,000 meals each day. Operation Feed efforts help stock the shelves of these food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters throughout central and eastern Ohio.
