Nationwide Childrens Hospital to Open New Close To Home SM Center in Ironton

July 6, 2009

Nationwide Childrens Hospital will open a Close To HomeSM Center in Ironton, Ohio, mid-July. Close To HomeSM  Centers offer community-based testing, treatment and care for children and families depending on the needs of the community at convenient locations. The Ironton Close To HomeSM  Center will provide Lawrence County and the surrounding area with a ChildLabSM  opening on July 13 followed by the opening of three specialty clinics with scheduling of appointments beginning in July.

The City of Ironton welcomes Nationwide Childrens Hospital to our community, said Ironton Mayor Rich Blankenship. We feel this will greatly benefit parents and children of Ironton and Lawrence County. We look forward to the anticipated benefits of their services and offer our full support.

ChildLabSM  staff are specially trained in pediatrics and are able to conduct a full range of laboratory tests which are sent to Nationwide Children's for analysis in order to maintain high quality diagnostic care.

The Ironton Close To HomeSM  Center will also offer pediatric surgery, neurology and urology specialty services. The Pediatric Surgery Clinic will offer surgery consultation and post-surgical follow-up care.  The Neurology Clinic will provide services in subspecialty evaluations and care for children who have neurological disorders affecting the central nervous system, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. The Urology Clinic will offer comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for children with diseases of the genitourinary tract.

We in Lawrence County are proud to be a supporter of Nationwide Childrens Hospital, said Lawrence County Commissioner Les Boggs. Focusing on pediatric health helps influence a happier and healthier adult life. Financially, it will help people to have these services be part of our community.

The Heart Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital has also provided outpatient pediatric cardiology services for two years near the Ironton community at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Ky. Coupled with the Heart Clinic in Ashland, the new Ironton Close To HomeSM  Center will provide enhanced convenient access to Southern Ohio residents seeking pediatric care through Nationwide Children's Hospital.

As a provider for children's primary health care needs in Lawrence County, we at the Family Medical Centers know how difficult it is to get specialty care for our children when the need arises, said D.R. Gosset, CEO of Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization. Having Nationwide Childrens Ironton Close To HomeSM  will give us a tremendous resource in caring for our patients. Nationwide Childrens reputation for cutting edge care and overall excellence is unexcelled.

It is my understanding that Nationwide Childrens Hospital is rated as one of the countrys top ten pediatric hospitals, said Bill Dickens, Irontons economic director. I think I can speak for the Greater Ironton Community in saying welcome to our city.

The Nationwide Childrens Close To HomeSM  Centers offer specialized care for all children, newborns through young adults. This new location will be the eighth Close To HomeSM  Center with current centers in Dublin, East Central Columbus, East Columbus, Gahanna, Hilliard, Newark and Westerville.
