WHAT:
COLUMBUS CHILDRENS HOSPITAL TO HOST PUBLIC MEETING
Community input to help shape Childrens 2012 campus

WHEN:
Tuesday, August 7, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m.
(brief formal program at 7pm)

WHERE:
Columbus Public Health Department
240 Parsons Ave.
2nd floor auditorium; parking behind the building

WHO/WHY:
Columbus Childrens Hospital is hosting public meetings to gather community input on future expansion plans for its downtown campus. In 2005, Childrens announced plans for an expansion effort that would add more than one million square feet of new facilities to the downtown campus.  These included a new main hospital building and clinical building, parking garage, new energy plant and a third research building.  These campus improvements will increase available beds and services at Childrens as well as expanding research and the hospitals education and teaching programs.  Childrens Hospital is in the process of modifying its facilities Master Plan as a result of three recent events:

Growing demand for patient and emergency room use. Childrens anticipates serving one million patients by 2012; patient growth has surged 71% in five years.

New 70/71 interstate reconfiguration that will result in a new interchange being built at Parsons Avenue and the subsequent closing of the 18th street exit.

Recent acquisition of property on the West side of Parsons which will allow Childrens to expand westward.

During the community public meetings, Childrens will share details about future plans and ask for feedback on its 2012 Campus Vision including its re-orientation of the hospital toward Parsons Avenue; the opportunity to make Parsons a gateway to the south side of Columbus; the addition of more green space; how to manage its residential properties in a way that is consistent with community goals; how to connect the west to the main campus; and how to improve safety, traffic flow and walkability of Livingston Avenue.
