Childrens Sports Medicine Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Award Winners Announced

In celebration of the grand opening of Columbus Childrens Hospital Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center in Westerville, two area high school students, Corinne Hoffman (43081) and Sara Hall (43110), were awarded the Childrens Sports Medicine Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Award.

This annual award was created to honor two area high school students who recognize the importance of an overall healthy lifestyle in both mind and body. According to Lisa Kluchurosky, program manager for Childrens Sports Medicine, A healthy student understands and demonstrates how fitness and conditioning, injury prevention skills, good nutritional habits and a positive attitude contribute to his or her success.

A 2007 graduate of Westerville South High School, Hoffman served as class treasurer, was a captain of the varsity volleyball team, a member of the dodgeball club and a member of the Academic Integrity Committee. Hoffman also participates in community service, including the Physicians Free Clinic, Habitat for Humanity and Westerville Student Outreach. She was on Westerville Souths Honor Roll all four years. Other awards and grants include the Ohio Capital Conference Scholar Athlete Award (2006), Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship and the Kiwanis Academic Varsity Team. This fall, Hoffman plans to attend Denison University to study biology and pre-optometry. 

Hall is a 2007 graduate of Canal Winchester High School. She was involved in student council, served as a class officer and played on the varsity soccer and varsity softball teams. Community service involvement includes Franklin County Dog Shelter, vacation bible school and Disability Resource Network. Other awards and grants received by Hall include National Honor Roll and Hugh OBrien Youth Leadership. Hall plans to attend Centre College in the fall to study history.

One of only four sports medicine facilities of its kind in the country, the Childrens Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center is the first in Ohio to be dedicated solely to providing specially targeted care to young athletes and active kids. The 23,000 square-feet facility includes clinical and procedure rooms, rehabilitation gym and performance center with advanced exercise equipment and multipurpose activity flooring providing space for the Childrens Personal Best Injury Prevention programs, a track and basketball area. Services available at the center include radiology, which includes two digital plain-film radiography rooms, and the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition.

The Childrens Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center is located at 584 County Line Road West in Westerville.

Childrens Sports Medicine is a team of physicians, athletic trainers and physical therapists specially trained to deal with injuries unique to the student athlete. Children's Sports Medicine provides care at three other locations: Childrens Orthopedic Center at 479 Parsons Ave. in Columbus; Childrens East Close To HomeSM Health Care Center at 6435 East Broad Street in Columbus; and Childrens Northwest Close To HomeSM Health Care Center at 5675 Venture Drive in Dublin.
