Biography

 

Carla Luevano, Ph.D., BCBA, COBA, is a licensed psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst within the Adolescent Transition Program (ATP) at the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (CASD). Dr. Luevano oversees the Adaptive Counseling service line within ATP. Adaptive Counseling offers modified individual therapy for individuals with Autism and Intellectual Disability. The Adaptive Counseling service line aims to make psychotherapy more accessible by incorporating visual supports, breaking complex ideas down into smaller parts, being sensitive to communication differences, collaborating closely with caregivers, and implementing client-centered behavior supports. Overall, Adaptive Counseling aims to provide a welcoming space to explore and improve upon emotional understanding, coping, self-awareness, and interpersonal relationships.

Dr. Luevano earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in School Psychology with an emphasis on Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Cincinnati. Her pre-doctoral experience includes school consultation and intervention within public K-12 schools and within specialized school environments for individuals with Autism and intensive emotional or behavioral concerns. Dr. Luevano completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Marcus Autism Center, working within the intensive feeding and severe behavior day treatment programs. She then completed her post-doctoral fellowship at CASD through Nationwide Children's Hospital where she received further training in complex behavior intervention and evidence-based psychotherapy. Dr. Luevano currently supervises clinicians within the Adaptive Counseling program who provide services in office, home, via telehealth, and across community settings.
