Alexander (Alex) T. Rakowsky, MD, is an associate professor at the Ohio State University College of Medicine and an attending in the Primary Care Division at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. His clinical work is primarily with residents at the Olentangy continuity clinic, where he has been for 22 years. Dr. Rakowsky is also the medical director of the Healthy Children service line at Partners For Kids (PFK), which is the largest accountable care organization focused on pediatric aged patients. Prior to his work at PFK Dr. Rakowsky was the IRB chair at NCH for 10 years and then one of the pediatric residency associate program directors for nearly 10 years.
His passions include resident education with particular focus on: (a) working on development of early literacy in our patients, especially in non-English speaking families, (b) developing awareness about and knowledge on how to combat food insecurity among the families we serve and (c) incorporating robust advocacy and mental health education into the resident curriculum. Related to his clinical work with residents, Dr. Rakowsky serves on several national committees including the APA (Academic Pediatric Association) Continuity Clinic SIG (being one of the authors for the recently released 3rd Edition of the Manual for Continuity Faculty).
At PFK his work focuses on increasing the well child visit rates in the over 40+ counties covered by PFK. He additionally is very active with the statewide Outcomes Acceleration in Kids (OAK) work that is working to make Ohio the healthiest state for children in the country.
