Flutter is a collection of inspirational stories shared by patients of Nationwide Children’s Hospital and their families. Share your story with us, and watch it become a part of the collection.
We want you to have the best experience possible with the Flutter website. Here are some common questions we feel our families may have:

FAQ Section
Why do I have to be a patient/parent/guardian to submit a story?
We take our patients’ privacy seriously at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) requires that patient information only be shared by the patient or their legal guardian. If you are not the patient’s parent or legal guardian, we appreciate your help in protecting the privacy of our patients and their families by following these guidelines.
What is the process to submit my story?
We want telling your story to be as easy as possible. The first step is to fill out our Share Your Story form. After you have submitted the form, a member of our team will contact you within two business days with next steps. From there, you can write your story on your own schedule and simply send it back to us when it's ready. Our team will contact you when your story is life to share with friends and family!
How do I best tell my story?
You know your child's story better than anyone. The most important thing is to be real and honest. If you need some questions to help you get started, think about things like:
- When was your child’s health problem discovered? How was it discovered?
- What was your journey to get a diagnosis and treatment. Did you seek treatment somewhere else first?
- What brought you to Nationwide Children's Hospital?
- Tell us about your experience at Nationwide Children's. What still sticks out to you?
- How is your child doing today? Are they fully recovered? If not, what does their recovery or maintenance look like?
- Tell us about your child and their life now. How old are they? What activities do they enjoy?
How do I make my photos look their best in Flutter?
You can post up to three photos with your story OR you can post one video and two photos.
Submitted photos may be cropped to fit the allotted space. Landscape (horizontal) photos with the child’s face near the center of the image work best. If you prefer to crop your photos prior to uploading them to Flutter, the recommended size for the Featured Image is at least 1,000 x 600 pixels. The recommended size for the two smaller images is at least 498 x 300 pixels. Photos should be no more than 3 MB.
To submit a video, simply send us the YouTube URL and we will embed the video into your story.
And don’t worry, if you choose to post fewer than three photos we have great pictures of our animal friends that will automatically fill any unused image positions in your child’s story.
