Your Pregnancy, Week 24

Between your 24th and 28th week of pregnancy, you’ll have a test to check for gestational diabetes. This is called a blood glucose screening.

Gestational diabetes is diabetes that starts during pregnancy. Babies born to moms with this issue are more likely to have problems.

For the test, you'll drink a special glucose drink. It tastes like a syrupy soda. Then, at set times, you’ll have your blood drawn. This is done to check your blood sugar level. If you’re diagnosed with gestational diabetes, work with your healthcare provider. Together, you’ll create a care plan to manage your diabetes. This can reduce risks to you and your baby.
