Biography

Alpa V. Patel, MD, is an internal medicine/pediatric and sleep medicine physician in the Division of Pulmonary, Sleep Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She is an associate professor of pediatrics and internal medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She is the medical director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center at Nationwide Children’s. Her clinical interest focuses on diagnosis and treatment of sleep-related disorders and management of adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) followed at Nationwide Children’s. She also travels to provide medical care at the Nationwide Children’s-Toledo Pediatric Sleep Clinic. Her research interest lies in the prevention and treatment of non-pulmonary CF co-morbidities such as anxiety and depression related to CF, CF-related osteoporosis and CF-related diabetes. She is involved in numerous clinical trials through the Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutic Development Network and has served as a primary reviewer on proposed protocols. Dr. Patel is also the director of and is actively involved in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program at Nationwide Children’s since its inception in 2005. She enjoys giving forward by actively being involved in education of medical professionals at multiple levels, especially the internal medicine residents and sleep medicine fellows.
