Sleep Disorder Center

We Help Patients With Poor Sleep Habits and More Serious Underlying Medical Conditions

Sleep Disorder Center

The sleep medicine experts at Nationwide Children’s Hospital assist primary care physicians and specialists with the diagnosis and treatment of infants, children and adolescents with sleep problems.

The patient starts with a consultation by a specialist with expertise in the management of sleep disorders. If indicated, an overnight sleep study (also referred to as a polysomnography) is scheduled at Nationwide Children’s sleep laboratory. During the sleep study, patients are monitored throughout the night, measuring brainwaves, nasal and oral airflow, oxygen saturation, carbon dioxide and patient effort.

The sleep study is analyzed by a registered polysomnography technologist and interpreted by one of the center’s board-certified sleep physicians. A sleep specialist determines if the patient has a sleep disorder based on the history and findings of the sleep study and makes management recommendations.
