Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Clinic

The Department of Rheumatology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital offers a Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Clinic to provide comprehensive care for the needs of our clinic patients. Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a type of imaging that can be used to assess your child’s joints for signs of inflammation or to help us monitor your child’s response to treatment.  We can see fluid within the joint, swelling of the joint lining, and active inflammation in the tendons and joints that we may not be able to appreciate with our physical exam alone. This type of ultrasound is designed to diagnose and assess arthritis. Additional imaging studies may be needed to look for other causes of pain if this exam is normal.

Rheumatologists and radiologists perform the ultrasounds. Our expert team has been involved in national teaching and research efforts.

Services We Offer

  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound evaluation
  • Image guided musculoskeletal procedures for joint aspirations or steroid injections
