When to refer to Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology:

  • All common gynecologic diagnoses
  • All sexual reproductive health conditions/needs
  • Prepubertal: anatomic concerns (i.e. imperforate hymen, hymen variants, vaginal masses, vaginal agenesis/atresia, clitoromegaly, labial adhesions), vulvovaginitis, vaginal bleeding, vaginal foreign body, vulvar skin changes, pelvic/perineal pain, ovarian cysts/masses, genital trauma/straddle injuries, precocious puberty
  • Post-pubertal: abnormal bleeding, dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, complex contraceptive needs, reproductive outcomes associated with complex medical conditions
  • Surgical: adnexal masses, ovarian cysts/tumors/neoplasms, mullerian (uterine) and vaginal anomalies, hymenal variants, sedated IUD insertions, laparoscopy for chronic pain
