Biography

Dr. Mary Fristad is Director of Academic Affairs and Research Development in the Division of Child & Family Psychiatry and Big Lots Behavioral Health Services at Nationwide Children's Hospital and Emerita Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Psychology, and Nutrition at the Ohio State University. Dr. Fristad received her doctorate from the University of Kansas after completing her clinical internship at Brown University. Dr. Fristad is board certified in clinical psychology and clinical child and adolescent psychology. She has served on the inaugural executive boards and been president of both the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and the American Board of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Currently, she serves on the NIMH Initial Review Group for Child Psychopathology and Developmental Disabilities, is Editor-in-Chief of Evidence-based Practice in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and Psychotherapy Trials Deputy Editor for the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

She has been principal investigator, co-investigator, or consultant on over 60 federal, state, industry, and/or foundation grants. Dr. Fristad's research focuses on assessment and treatment of mood disorders in children. She has more than 200 publications, including books and workbooks for parents, children, and clinicians. At Nationwide Children's Hospital, Dr. Fristad fosters faculty development, research initiatives, quality improvement projects, training in mood disorders, and sees patients and families in the Mood and Anxiety Program.
