Juan de Dios Ruiz-Rosado, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Principal Investigator in the Kidney and Urinary Tract Center. He is an affiliated member of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He earned his BS with honors from National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He also received his PhD in immunology from UNAM. During his postdoctoral studies at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute (AWRI), Dr. Ruiz-Rosado investigated the roles of immune phagocytes during experimental pyelonephritis induced by Uropathogenic Escherichia coli. As a Principal Investigator at AWRI, Dr. Ruiz-Rosado’s research focuses on enhancing the antimicrobial capacity of immune phagocytes during UTI, which represents a novel non-antibiotic-based strategy to eliminate UTI. Dr. Ruiz-Rosado’s long-term goal is to advance the development of new therapies to treat UTI and prevent deleterious renal scarring in patients with UTI. Dr. Ruiz-Rosado has served as a mentor for undergraduate, graduate, medical and postdoctoral students at AWRI.
