Benjamin P. Thompson, DO, has been an attending radiologist at Nationwide Children's Hospital since 2014 with a specialized clinical focus on fluoroscopic techniques to improve outcomes in children with colorectal developmental disorders, intestinal failure, hepatobiliary disorders and velopharyngeal dysfunction. He has benefited from a robust collaboration with colleagues in the Colorectal & Pelvic Reconstruction Center. He has championed the development of our Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) program for patients with hepatic steatosis and liver fibrosis. He led the creation of a unique innovative technique in MRE to further assess regional liver stiffness and presented at the 26th Annual Society of Pediatric Radiology. He is the Co-Director of Quality Improvement and Safety for Radiology at Nationwide Children's with a mission of providing the highest quality patient care, in the safest possible environment, in order to achieve the best possible outcome for every patient.
He completed fellowship training in 2014 and earned the certification of Advance Qualification Pediatric Radiology Subspecialty (American Board of Radiology). He is an active member of the Society of Pediatric Radiology (SPR) and he has co-authored numerous publications with a specialized focus on children with anorectal malformations and liver fibrosis. He is in annual presenter at the International Pediatric Colorectal, Motility and Pelvic Reconstruction Conference and International Symposium on Velopharyngeal Dysfunction. Additionally, he has presented at the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) with a focus on Understanding Anorectal and Cloacal Malformations with 3-D Printed models. In 2014, he was a finalist for the SPR Caffey Award for a presentation on Cerebral Deep Venous Thrombosis in Children: Spectrum of Imaging Findings based on Structural Anatomy.
On a personal note, he is happily married with 3 wonderful children. He is grateful for the opportunity each day to work with fantastic people who strive together as a team to provide the best possible care to all children in central Ohio.
