Ohio Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) District 3 and 5

The Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) is a statewide initiative aimed to reduce unintended pregnancy, HIV and sexually transmitted infections in the state of Ohio for young people ages 14 to 21 who:

  • reside in foster care or the juvenile justice system
  • attend an alternative, vocational, career or technical school
  • are pregnant or parenting

The Ohio PREP Statewide Initiative is funded by The Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF), Family and Youth Service Bureau (FYSB) and administered by the Ohio Department of Youth Services in partnership with the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

How does PREP work?

The Ohio PREP utilizes a train the trainer model consisting of three steps:

  1. Ohio Department of Health trains sub grantees staff as PREP Master Trainers
  2. PREP Master Trainers train professionals who work with youth as PREP Instructors
  3. PREP Instructors provide PREP workshops to eligible youth

When an agency staff completes the PREP Instructor Training they are eligible to conduct PREP youth workshops.

PREP is conducted throughout the state of Ohio. The state is divided into 5 different districts.

  • District 3 is made of the following 18 counties: Athens, Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Gallia, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Lawrence, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Tuscarawas, Vinton and Washington.
  • District 5 is made of the following 20 counties: Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Hardin, Hocking, Knox, Licking, Logan, Madison, Marion, Mercer, Miami, Morrow, Pickaway, Shelby and Union.
What workshops and trainings do we offer?

PREP offers a variety of free trainings and workshops.

PREP Youth Workshops follow a fun and interactive curriculum designed to give youth the skills they need to successfully transition to adulthood. Making Proud Choices (MPC) is the foundation of the unintended pregnancy and STI prevention component of PREP. The curriculum is supplemented by the PREP Adulthood Modules, which include:

  • Healthy Relationships
  • Financial Literacy
  • Career Building

All PREP Youth Workshops are tailored to the agency and the youth. Youth that complete at least 75% of the program will receive an incentive for participating based on available resources.

PREP Instructor Training is a free facilitator training for youth-serving professionals. This is an interactive training designed to equip professionals with the confidence and tools needed to effectively facilitate youth workshops on pregnancy and STI prevention.

Parent Engagement Workshops bring parents together to discuss important topics that directly impact families with teens. These educational workshops provide parents with tools and resources to help their teens navigate the transition to adulthood. They are free and open to all parents and caregivers.

Professional Development Workshops are offered throughout the year for youth-serving providers, professionals and key stakeholders. These free workshops are designed to move your career forward by providing specialized training in all facets of career and professional development.

Virtual Workshops and Trainings are available!  All services can be provided virtually, including PREP Youth Workshops, PREP Instructor Trainings, Parent Engagement Workshops, and Professional Development Workshops.
