Healthy Kids Coalition of Central Ohio
The Healthy Kids Coalition of Central Ohio works to address, develop and influence policy recommendations, resolutions and practices that affect the overall health and well-being of central Ohio children ages 0 to 18.
We are a group of more than 100 central Ohio professionals who are committed to helping our community’s kids have access to resources that help them live, learn and play at their best, such as:
- Daily opportunities to be physically active
- Access to nutritious foods
- Water first for thirst
- Policy, advocacy, and education on current and long-term topics affecting kids and families
- Community resources and weekly events
- Healthy eating habits
- Effects of targeted marketing on children's wellbeing
Our Work
Our work focuses on six key goals, including:
- Increasing Physical Activity: Promoting physical activity to enhance the quality of life for children.
- Reducing Screen Time: Creating and promoting activities that encourage kids to engage in healthy interpersonal activities.
- Establishing Healthy Eating Habits: Remaining mindful of the increase in pediatric obesity; focusing on healthy eating habits through the promotion of farmer's markets, food pantries, collaboration with local food resources and more.
- Advocacy: Advocating for policy and structures that improve the overall wellbeing of kids in Central Ohio.
- Promoting Water First for Thirst: Recognizing that most energy/sports drinks being targeted toward kids are loaded with hidden sugars and unwanted calories – the coalition is dedicated to ensuring kids in Central Ohio have access to water first for their thirst.
- Safe Spaces: Highlighting safe spaces where kids in Central Ohio can play, learn, grow and explore.
