Resources for Patients
At Nationwide Children's Hospital, we realize that emotional support is every bit as important as medical treatment. That's why we created an online community for our patients and potential patients. Learn about upcoming support groups, past events and enroll in our patient education series.
Our Patient Education Series focuses on issues that face adolescent and adults with congenital heart disease and provides valuable information from the country's leading experts.
Central Ohio Congenital Heart Walk/5k Run
The Central Ohio Congenital Heart Walk/5K Run is an exciting, joint effort between the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and The Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF). This national fundraising campaign is designed to support the millions impacted by congenital heart disease in an inspirational day of sharing, fund and caring!
This event is a way to show the nation how a team of inspired individuals can make a difference. Funds raised support the mission of both these national non-profit organizations who are dedicated to improving the quality of life of those impacted by congenital heart disease (CHD).
Adult Congenital Heart Association Lobby Day
Nearly 80 advocates, including members from the Columbus Ohio Adult Congenital Heart Disease (COACH) program at Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University, gathered in Washington, D.C., for Lobby Day to help drive and lead the long-term care and awareness of congenital heart disease. Hosted by the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and Mended LittleHearts (MLH), this annual event brings together patients, family members, medical professionals, and supporters from across the country to connect with more than 100 legislative offices.
Key focus areas directed towards lawmakers included:
- Provide funding to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to support data collection to better understand the prevalence and assess the public health impact of congenital heart disease.
- Support the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s efforts to expand research to target the diverse lifelong needs of individuals living with congenital heart disease.
- Join the Congenital Heart Caucus.
Additionally, COACH program members met with Senator Sherrod Brown (OH-Democrat), who supports the above legislation. Members who met with the senator and are featured in the Adult Congenital Heart Association Lobby Day video include Curt Daniels, MD, Director of the COACH Program, Marc Cribbs, MD, The Schooler Adult Congenital Heart Disease Fellow, Chris Learn, MD, Adult Congenital Heart Disease Fellow and Patty Woods, APN, Nurse Coordinator.
Dr. Curt Daniels joins Dr. Mike in the PediaCast Studio for a discussion on Adult Congenital Heart Disease. As surgical and medical outcomes improve for children born with congenital heart defects, more and more of these patients survive into adulthood. We cover the unique problems of these patients, the importance of long-term follow-up, medical and surgical management, and the latest research topics.
