Debra Boyer, MD, MHPE, Appointed Chief Medical Education Officer and Designated Institutional Official (DIO) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital

Debra Boyer, MD, MHPE, has recently been appointed chief medical education officer and designated institutional official (DIO) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Boyer will also be a practicing physician in pediatric pulmonology and as a transplant pulmonologist in Nationwide Children’s Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Program.

Prior to joining Nationwide Children’s, Dr. Boyer was the associate medical director of the Lung Transplant Program at Boston Children’s Hospital for 19 years. Her work in pediatric lung transplantation has resulted in numerous advances and publications in infectious diseases and prevention. Additionally, she helped develop the first pediatric study linking pre-transplant physical conditioning with post-transplant outcomes.

During her years on faculty at Harvard Medical School, she developed extensive expertise in medical education. Dr. Boyer was actively involved in the education and training of pulmonary fellows. She also has experience teaching and lecturing at a regional, national and international level on a variety of topics. In her role at Nationwide Children’s, Dr. Boyer will be overseeing more than 85 residency and fellowship training programs, medical student programs and numerous other areas of medical education.
