About Your Diagnosis

Each year in the United States an estimated 2,200 children between the ages of 0 to 15 years are diagnosed with invasive central nervous system tumors. The number of newly diagnosed primary brain tumors increases to approximately 3,200 cases each year if non-malignant tumors are included. Each year, Nationwide Children's Hospital will diagnose and treat about 50 children with some form of primary CNS tumor.

The Brain Tumor program at Children’s Hospital is composed of a team of health care providers from many different specialties. We are here to help the children and their families go through the process of diagnosis and treatment as smoothly as possible. The diagnosis of a brain tumor in a child is extremely stressful. We involve the child and family as much as possible in the decisions regarding treatment and care.

As Children’s Hospital, treatment is available for every type of childhood brain tumor. At any given time there are a large number of clinical trials taking place at Children’s Hospital that offer additional treatment options to your child. Many of the clinical trials offered as part of the Children’s Oncology Group.
