Nationwide Childrens Hospital Ranks Among the Best in all Categories Surveyed in U.S.News & World Reports 2008 Edition of Americas Best Childrens Hospitals

May 30, 2008

Nationwide Childrens Hospital ranked in all seven pediatric specialties surveyed in the new, expanded U.S.News and World Reports listing of Americas Best Childrens Hospitals published online at www.usnews.com/pediatrics and in the magazines June 9 issue, on newsstands Monday, June 2.

Last year the pediatric rankings listed the top 30 pediatric centers. This years survey uses an all new methodology focusing on specialties rather than an overall ranking. Of the 143 childrens hospitals invited to participate, 113 responded. The 2008 Americas Best Childrens Hospitals now includes the 30-top-ranked hospitals in each of the following specialties: cancer, digestive disorders, heart and heart surgery, neonatal care, neurology and neurosurgery, respiratory disorders and general pediatrics.

Nationwide Childrens ranked among the best in all categories including ninth in digestive disorders and heart and heart surgery, 15th in general pediatrics, 22nd in cancer, and 24th in neonatal care, respiratory disorders and neurology and neurosurgery. Steve Allen, MD, chief executive officer for Nationwide Children's Hospital, said this latest national recognition highlighting the hospitals expertise in subspecialties illustrates its comprehensive ability to care for all patients.

Making this list of best childrens hospitals validates our strategic plan and focused mission to transform healthcare for our children, said Allen. The commitment of our dedicated physicians and staff to provide the best in family-centered care is at the heart of Nationwide Childrens Hospital and this recognition.

Very sick kids need very special care, said Senior Writer Avery Comarow, who has been editor of the Americas Best Hospitals and Americas Best Childrens Hospitals annual rankings since their inception. The best places for them are pediatric facilities with a deep pool of expertise in their particular illness. Breaking out key specialties is crucial to help parents and other caregivers find these facilities.
