Partnership with United Way Central Ohio Once Again Brings Free Tax Support to the Community

Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s free tax preparation effort – which has become, in just five years, the largest program of its kind coordinated by a children’s hospital in the United States – kicked off its latest tax season with a “Super Saturday” event at the hospital on Feb. 24.

The 2023 version of the event led to 85 tax returns filed; the 2024 version had more than 100.

“When we are helping individuals and families get all of the refunds and tax credits they are entitled to, and we do that for free, they have more money available for rent, for food, and for living a healthy life,” said Ed Miner, who leads the tax preparation effort at Nationwide Children’s. “Our goal every year is to help even more people than we did the year before.”

Nationwide Children’s tax preparation work began in 2019 through Healthy Neighborhoods Healthy Families, the hospital’s initiative to improve the well-being of Franklin County communities. In 2023, the hospital helped return $1.2 million in refunds to families by freely preparing more than 600 tax returns from February through mid-April.

The hospital continues to partner with the United Way of Central Ohio’s Tax Time program to reach as many families as possible during the tax season.
