The latest high-quality, affordable housing development from Nationwide Children’s Hospital and its partners has opened on the South Side of Columbus – made possible by an innovative funding model.

The 60-unit Lockbourne Greene project now stands on what was once a vacant Columbus Land Bank spot.

“We’re proud of what this represents: the strength of the South Side as a community, and the commitment of so many to make sure it stays strong,” said Tim Robinson, CEO of Nationwide Children’s.

Nationwide Children’s and its Healthy Homes program have just celebrated 15 years of building and improving affordable housing in Columbus neighborhoods, including more than 500 units in the South Side neighborhood near the hospital. All of that housing work was possible through partnership, just like Lockbourne Greene.

Healthy Homes, itself a collaboration between Nationwide Children’s and the nonprofit Community Development for All People, worked with affordable housing developer Woda Cooper Companies on Lockbourne Greene. About half of its $16 million budget came through low-income housing tax credits. Those LIHTC funds made the project possible.

Other important funding was provided through the Franklin County Treasurer’s Office, the Affordable Housing Trust for Columbus & Franklin County and the Columbus Franklin County Finance Authority.

Lockbourne Greene is available for families, seniors, and other general occupancy residents who earn 40% to 70% of area median income, or approximately $39,680 to $69,440 annually for a family of four. Rents range from $760 to $999 per month, depending on income category and the size of the apartment.
