Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship

The pediatric otolaryngology fellowship provides fully trained otolaryngologists with the clinical and academic experiences to diagnose and manage uncommon and complex otolaryngologic disorders in high risk neonates and children who may have a variety of significant co-morbidities. Throughout the 12 month training program, fellows:

  • Are actively involved in the management of, and communication with, patients with various pediatric otolaryngologic problems and their families
  • Assume increasing levels of responsibility within different clinical settings, including weekly outpatient clinic visits, Emergency Department patient encounters, inpatient consultations, inpatient post-operative care, and both inpatient and outpatient surgery as well as attention to settings at home and school (under attending supervision)
  • Effectively participate in, and as appropriate lead, the interdisciplinary healthcare team managing pediatric otolaryngology patients
  • Teach and assist general otolaryngology residents in the management of patients in these venues
  • Critically examine the literature and conduct a scholarly inquiry project

These activities enable pediatric otolaryngology fellows to increase their patient care skills, as well as provide an opportunity for practice-based learning and improvement, enhance their interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrate their professionalism, and improve their ability to function effectively within broader healthcare systems. At the end of the program, each fellow is expected to be able to function competently and independently as a pediatric otolaryngologist.
