For Participants
As part of the ECHO study, you’ll have study visits during pregnancy and as your child grows. These visits help us learn how experiences before and after birth shape children’s health and development. During visits, you may:
- Complete surveys
- Provide biological samples (like blood, urine, or saliva)
- Participate in developmental activities
- Take health measurements
Pregnancy Visits
Pregnant participants complete two study visits: one in early pregnancy and one in late pregnancy. Study visits typically take place during regularly scheduled prenatal appointments at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC). If you transfer care outside of OSUWMC after enrolling in the study, you can still participate in ECHO. Talk to a member of our team for details.
We also visit you during your hospital stay at OSUWMC after delivery whenever possible. We enjoy welcoming new ECHO babies to the study!
Infancy and Child Visits
After your child is born, ECHO Study visits take place at Nationwide Children’s main campus. Our goal is to make each visit comfortable, convenient, and family-friendly. A study team member will explain each activity, answer questions, offer flexible scheduling, and help with siblings when needed. You will receive an appointment confirmation that includes all the details for the visit including what to bring, where to park, and where to meet a member of the study team. You will receive compensation and a gift for your child at each visit.
Participation in any part of ECHO is your choice. You can decide which study activities you want to do, and you may say no at any time. Our team is available to discuss any questions or concerns before, during, or after your visit to OSUWMC or Nationwide Children’s.
