STARRS-PC
Many pediatric primary care providers do not routinely screen their patients for suicide risk. However, research has shown primary care clinics are an important setting for youth suicide prevention. We aim to support and partner doctors with instructions on the steps to take based on results, while considering the experiences of patients and providers. Our goal is to increase and improve screening using tools that standardize when and how to screen and offer providers with instructions on the steps to take based on results, while considering the experiences of patients and providers.
Currently, we have 14 primary care offices participating across the state of Ohio.
Youth suicide is a growing concern across the nation. Our study hopes to identify those in need and provide them with the right resources to prevent suicide and support families before, during, and after a crisis. By being a part of this study, you help us learn what we are doing right along with areas to improve so we can assess, address, and prevent suicide. The STARRS-PC team appreciates your interest in our study and your help in shaping youth mental health treatment across Ohio.

Nothing changed since my child's last visit to their primary care provider. What treatment is my child getting by being enrolled in this study?
The purpose of this study is to identify suicide risk. Much like a cancer screening or having labs drawn our goal is to identify risk signs for suicide in youth and provide guidance for their follow-up visits. Your child's doctor may decide to refer your child to a psychiatrist or prescribe medication based off the screenings we have provided. As the study progresses, we provide more tools for your doctor to use to provide efficient care for your child.
What do I do if I need to reschedule?

I lost my ClinCard that you gave me from my previous appointment. How do I get a new one?
Give us a call or email us and we will be more than happy to help you out. All unused funds will be transferred over to the new card to use at your leisure. Any funds used before the initial card's loss will not be reuploaded to the new card.
My child is no longer interested in participating, but I am. Can I still participate?
Unfortunately, we need both the parent and child to be present at our meetings. It's important to let them know they are crucial to helping us get the right information to prevent suicide.
My other child/children would like to participate. Can they enroll as well?
If you have another child interested in participating in our study, please let their primary care provider know during their next visit. If they are eligible, a member from our team will contact you.
My friend wants their child enrolled in this study but goes to a different primary care office. Can they enroll their child in the study?
If someone you know is interested in our study, please share our contact information and we will be happy to help answer any questions they have.
