Gifts to Make
(Please make sure you check all hand sewn items to remove any needles or pins you may have used during construction.)
- Patient Dolls: Plain, solid, and neutral colored fabric dolls, stuffed with polyester filling. Dolls should not have facial features or clothing. We use large quantities of the dolls for teaching and medical play with children. Click here to download a pattern and instructions. Note: the page you will be downloading is large...17 inches wide by 11 inches tall...and is a PDF file. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print it. You may choose to print the file as 11 x 8 1/2 and then enlarge it to 17 x 11 if you wish. The doll dimensions must be 17 x 11 to accommodate our teaching methods.
- Comforts, quilts, or fleece blankets: all sizes
- Pillows: various sizes (12”x12”, 12”x18”, 16”x5”)
- Baby gowns: for premature or full-term infants
- Activity bags: plastic or paper bags filled with items to provide children with craft activities and fun things to do. Items that may be included: stickers, sticker pages, safety scissors, tape, cut and paste activity sheets, coloring sheets, word search puzzles, crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, craft sticks, watercolor paints, and bead kits with instructions. No candy or food items, please.
- Picture files: magazine pictures cut and categorized (people, food, sports, animals, etc.) for use in art activities
- Pre-cut seasonal decorations: 3” sizes of various shapes make art projects easier for children
- Monthly calendars: design a monthly wall calendar on a 2' x 3' poster board. A general outline is all that is needed, and children will fill in month, days and numbers.
- Banners: make on poster board and leave a large space for a name to be written in. Creativity in artwork is welcomed. Please avoid messages such as "Get Well Soon," "I Love You," and "God Bless" or other religious messages. Banners could simply say, "Happy Birthday," "Happy Holidays" or "Congratulations."
- Toiletry Kits (for parents or young adult patients): include items such as toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, comb, disposable razor, shaving cream, soap, etc. in a Ziplock bag.
