Transplant Programs at Nationwide Children’s include:
Led by Ken Washburn, MD, the Abdominal Transplant Program at Nationwide Children’s offers specialized and comprehensive care to children and adolescents with end-stage renal disease. Nationwide Children’s performs living-related and cadaveric renal transplant for infants, children and adolescents. Renal transplantation is offered in partnership with The Ohio State University Abdominal Organ Transplant Program, providing the full continuum of care to patients as they age and transition to adult care.
Heart transplants are available for end-stage cardiac failure refractory to medical therapy. All thoracic transplant programs are certified by the United Network for Organ Sharing, approved by the Ohio Department of Health and Human Services, and accepted into the Ohio Solid Organ Transplant Consortium.
The Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Programs are part of a multi-organ transplant center at Nationwide Children's. The transplant programs utilize a multidisciplinary team of lung and heart-lung transplant experts in the transplantation of children and adults with childhood diseases.
The Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT)program provides care for children with cancer, inherited immuno-deficiencies, blood disorders and metabolic/genetic diseases.
