Sharon Wrona, DNP, PNP, RN-BC, PMHS, AP-PMN joined Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 1988 as a registered nurse on the Hematology/Oncology unit. During her time with the Hematology/Oncology program she was involved in the development of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program and was the Program Manager for the Hematology/Oncology program.
In 2002, Dr. Wrona was instrumental in helping to start the Comprehensive Pain Service at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Under Dr. Wrona’s leadership the Comprehensive Pain Service has grown into a full service program with 1) Acute Pain Service, 2) Multidisciplinary Chronic Pain Clinic, 3) Regional Anesthesia Service, 4) Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM), and 5) Advanced Illness Management (Palliative Care). As a director of the Comprehensive Pain and Palliative Care Service, Dr. Wrona is administratively responsible for the full program.
As a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for the Comprehensive Pain Services, Dr. Wrona works collaboratively with the department of Anesthesia and a multidisciplinary team in providing inpatient and outpatient comprehensive pain management. She is certified in Pain Management Nursing, Pediatric Psychiatric Mental Health Specialist, and has an Advance Practice Pain Management Recognition through the American Society for Pain Management Nursing. She is actively involved in the American Society for Pain Management Nursing and is currently the President Elect for the organization. Dr. Wrona educates staff, patients, families, and the community on pediatric pain at Nationwide Children’s Hospital as well as healthcare professionals nationally and internationally.
