Areas of Interest:

  • Biology and treatment of pediatric mood disorders

Research Funding*:

  • Longitudinal Assessment of Manic Symptoms (LAMS2): LAMS is a collaborative, multi-site, NIMH-funded, collaborative R01 that proposes to longitudinally investigate “elevated symptoms of mania” (ESM) in children and adolescents. This project is being conducted at four sites over five years: Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals of Cleveland (Case/UHC), Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC), Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center/University of Cincinnati (CCHMC/UC), and Ohio State University.
  • Family Focused Therapy (R01): This 5-year study is testing the efficacy of a promising new intervention for BP adolescents, family-focused treatment (FFT), as adjunct to carefully controlled pharmacotherapy in a 3-site randomized trial (U. of Colorado [coordinating site; D. Miklowitz, PI], U. of Pittsburgh [D. Axelson, PI], and Cinn. Childrens [R. Kowatch, PI]). Outcome assessments include the K-SADS and the Longitudinal Interval Follow-up Evaluation given to parents and adolescents every 3–6 months over 2 years.
