Steven Cuff, MD, FAAP (43212), has been appointed as the newest physician in Sports Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Cuff will assist in treating injured athletes to make a healthy recovery and return to their sport in a timely manner. He will also work to implement strategies to prevent future injuries. Dr. Cuff will also have an appointment at The Ohio State University College of Medicine as a clinical assistant professor.
Together with Thomas Pommering, DO, Rich Rodenberg, MD, and Anastasia Fischer, MD, Dr. Cuff will assist in the continued development of the Sports Medicine program at Nationwide Children’s as well as educating primary care residents in the diagnosis and management of basic musculoskeletal problems in children. The Sports Medicine staff at Nationwide Children’s is trained to help provide age-appropriate care for patients with a focus on injury prevention.
"Dr Cuff's addition to our sports medicine team will allow us to continue to meet the immediate needs of our injured athletes who need expert care quickly. His background and training will bring new experience and expertise to our pediatric sports medicine program," said Dr. Pommering.
Dr. Cuff’s specific area of focus at Nationwide Children’s includes treating musculoskeletal and medical problems associated with sports in school age, high school and collegiate level athletes, with the goal being to treat the injury and help the athlete return to their sport in a safe and timely manner.
Dr. Cuff’s professional and research interests include concussions and how seasonal patterns of athletic participation affects the rates of overuse injuries by assessing the relationship between the two and then documenting injuries over three high school seasons to more accurately classify injuries.
Dr. Cuff comes to Nationwide Children’s from Akron Children’s Hospital where he recently completed his fellowship in sports medicine. He also served as a team physician for the University of Akron and Walsh University. Dr. Cuff received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Duke University and a medical degree from The Ohio State University. He completed his pediatrics residency at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital/University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Dr. Cuff is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of its Committee on Sports Medicine and Fitness and is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He has authored several publications and presentations.
