In 2014, Hollywood Casino Columbus and the City of Columbus donated a gift of $500,000 to make the expansion possible. The donation comes from the West Side Community Fund, which is a $5 million collaborative effort between the City of Columbus and Hollywood Casino Columbus, designed to revitalize and invigorate the city’s west side and stimulate growth in the area.
The expanded Westside Primary Care Center includes a large multipurpose space that can be used for training of medical staff, community and educational events and for other programs provided at this location, including health screenings, obesity prevention activities, homework help and Reach Out and Read. Clinical space and office space were also expanded.
“We are grateful to the City of Columbus and Hollywood Casino Columbus for this gift that allowed us to expand our clinical space, and create a community room to better serve the patients we see at our Westside Primary Care Center,” said Dr. Olivia Thomas, chief of Ambulatory Pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s. “This gift allows us to provide a space that meets the needs of this community.”
Nationwide Children's Primary Care Centers offer community-based physician services for children ages birth to 21 to help keep children in the community healthy with regular physical exams, vision, hearing and general development checks, and immunizations against childhood diseases. Patients of the Westside Primary Care Center are also able to utilize a 24-hour “Call a Nurse” service.
