Nationwide Children’s Hospital Section of Hematology/Oncology/BMT is dedicated to providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary diagnosis, treatment and long-term management and services for all ages ranging from neonates to young adults.
The new MIBG Program at Nationwide Children’s offers an innovative treatment option for oncology patients, specifically with high risk neuroblastoma. The treatment provides an alternative to other therapies with targeted meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG). The intravenous dose of MIBG has proven to yield successful results with this unique patient population. The addition of this service allows us to deliver cutting-edge therapy, but in a way that keeps the pediatric patient in mind.
The room, located on the twelfth floor of our new inpatient tower, meets specific standards to ensure the best quality of care. Lead lined walls and mobile lead shields are added protective features to help manage patient and family safety. Everything the patient needs is in the room: windows, entertainment and even a private bathroom.
We follow the model of treating the whole family. The large patient room includes a parent “suite” upon entry with a glass window and door for close access. An audio/visual system allows parents to see and communicate with the child at all times. Our emphasis on the patient experience can only be successful when the family is involved.
With a leading team of physicians, nurses and staff, our program offers world-class expertise and treatment. Our staff strive to provide the best care for our patients, day and night.
Our program extends past the diagnosis and treatment, and includes psychosocial programs, long-term follow-up care, sibling support and school transitioning programs to ensure our patients and families have all the tools and team support they need readily available.
Our on-going dedication to our patient and families is never ending. We are pleased to announce we are classified as one of the best childrens’s hospitals listed by U.S. News & World Report.
