Mary Cismowski, PhD is a principal investigator in the Center for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She is a Research Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Ohio State University College of Medicine.

  • Our group serves as a molecular screening core for the Heart Center. In this capacity we have developed a variety of assays to examine circulating biomarkers, gene expression changes and post-translational changes that occur in response to inherited and acquired cardiovascular diseases. In addition to this work, our group is studying the function of a small family of heterotrimeric G-protein regulators in cardiovascular and other diseases. One of these regulators, termed AGS1, is upregulated in vascular smooth muscle cells following hypoxic stress. We speculate that this regulator functions to modulate proliferation and/or migration of these cells during neovascularization.

  • Continued characterization of signaling pathways regulated by the heterotrimeric G-protein modulators AGS1 and AGS8; analysis of their function in cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular development
  • Development of high throughput genetic screening methodologies for the rapid identification of GPCR and heterotrimeric G-protein signal regulators from normal and diseased tissues
