Take Action: Keep Medicaid Strong for Ohio's Kids

Over the next few weeks, the U.S. Congress is expected to make important decisions on the future of Medicaid, the government program that provides health insurance for people with low income.

More than half of the children who visit Nationwide Children’s Hospital are covered by Medicaid. We believe it is crucial to their health – and to the health of other children across the country – that their access to care through this program is preserved. Among other important services, Medicaid allows for preventative care for children, so fewer of them need to come to the hospital at all.

Any cut to Medicaid is likely to mean fewer children have health insurance, as our CEO Steve Allen, MD, wrote in an opinion piece earlier this year in The Hill. Any cut will also disproportionately affect children, because such a large percentage of them are enrolled in Medicaid.

Please consider contacting your senator and representative to encourage them to keep Medicaid strong for children. We have created a message that you can use, or that you can customize with your own thoughts and experiences. Download the sample message here.

Thank you for helping communicate this key message about children’s health.
