Sports Medicine Athletic Trainers
Eric Leighton graduated from Capital University with a Bachelors degree in athletic training in 2000, and is licensed by the state of Ohio, as well as nationally certified. Before becoming an athletic trainer, Eric was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the state of Ohio and worked in a specialized post surgical and rehabilitation center for hand and arm injuries.Prior to joining the Children's Sports Medicine team, Eric served as the Athletic Trainer for Delaware Hayes High School in Delaware, Ohio for 6 years and before that at Big Walnut High School and Dublin Scioto High School. Eric is also involved with the Institute for International Sport, based at the University of Rhode Island, as part of the Sports Medicine team for the U.S. and World Scholar Athlete Games. Eric's sports career consisted of 6 years of Lacrosse, 4 in high school and 2 years in the U.S. Navy. Eric decided to look into athletic training after injuring my knee and going through therapy. The athletic trainers were able to help Eric work through his injury, remain active and ultimately to return to activity.
