Compliance Tip of the Week: Eyewash Inspections
Did you know that it is an Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) federal regulation (ANSI Z358.1-2009) that workers should perform weekly inspection and activation of the eyewash stations in their lab area? Our engineering department will check and maintain the eyewash stations in the hallways (usually close to a safety shower), but it is up to the individual labs to test the eyewashes within the laboratory spaces. These eyewashes are typically located in a sink area next to a faucet.
Employees should test and document the function of their eyewashes weekly. During a test, the eyewash should flow for at least 2 minutes and any malfunctions should be reported to Engineering (x8-8183).
