Diabetes Clinic

Diabetes is a major focus of the Endocrinology Section at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  We have a multidisciplinary team that works together to care for patients and families affected by diabetes.  Our goal is to empower families to successfully manage diabetes at home in order to provide as normal a life as possible for patients with diabetes.

The team serves as teacher and coach to families approximately four half-days per year to enable the family to provide excellent care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.  Our team includes physicians and advanced practitioners, diabetes educators, dietitians, social workers, diabetes nurses, and a psychologist.  We care for patients with Type 1 (“Juvenile”) diabetes and Type 2 (“Adult”) diabetes as well as less common forms such as inherited monogenic diabetes and MODY diabetes.

We offer a variety of approaches to diabetes therapy, customized to family needs, such as insulin pump or basal/bolus therapy.  Our approach is proactive, medically and educationally and psychosocially, in order to identify needs early to prevent problems from developing.
