Biography

Daniel J. Scherzer, MD, is an attending physician in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Centers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine. He is the Medical Director of the newly instituted Patient Safety and Simulation Center and a member of the Pediatric Analgesia and Sedation Service. Dr. Scherzer’s clinical interests include promoting the practice of cost-effective and common sense medicine, the reduction of iatrogenic morbidity, critique of clinical pathways and appropriate use of laboratory and radiology resources. Educational interests include the incorporation of Crew Resource Management principles and human actors into medical education and practice, direct precepting and experiential teaching of residents and medical students, as well as providing lectures and participating in educational seminars for pediatric emergency medicine fellows. Dr. Scherzer’s primary administrative interest is the development of the new simulation center of which the primary goal is the integration of simulation-based techniques into the hospital’s educational curricula and safety culture. He participates in the Doctor-Patient Relationship and Capstone courses for The OSU College of Medicine.
