As part of Pulmonary Medicine, the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital is devoted to the diagnosis and management of all acute and chronic respiratory disorders and diseases in children and adults. We are also involved in research to help better the lives of patients with cystic fibrosis.
We are accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to provide care for cystic fibrosis patients. We currently follow approximately 450 patients with cystic fibrosis (235 pediatric and 220 adult) who come from Ohio and surrounding states such as West Virginia and Kentucky. We provide a multidisciplinary treatment care team including physicians, nurses, dieticians, social workers, pharmacists and respiratory therapists.
Cystic Fibrosis requires multiple groups of health care providers to help in the management of care for patients including dieticians, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, psychologists, respiratory therapists and social workers. Learn about our Cystic Fibrosis Team.
Congratulations to Alpa V. Patel, MD, the co-director of Nationwide Children’s Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program, who was awarded the 2013 Caregiver of the Year by the Central Ohio Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Our Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Program was established to provide for the care of those with cystic fibrosis from birth to adulthood.
Our Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program was established to provide for the care of those with cystic fibrosis as they enter and progress through their adult years.
The Patient Family Advisory Board is a group of cystic fibrosis patients, their family members and health care providers who have come together to provide input and promote better care of cystic fibrosis patients at Nationwide Children's Hospital. If you have a question or would like more information about our Patient Family Advisory Board (PFAB), please email CF-PFAB-NCH@yahoogroups.com.

Despite significant progress in treating cystic fibrosis (CF), lung infection caused by bacteria, viruses, yeasts and molds, remains a serious problem for those with CF. To help combat these infections, the Nationwide Children’s CF Center follows the infection prevention and control policy established by the CF Foundation. Originally released in 2003, the recommendations were recently revised to reduce the risk of people with CF spreading or acquiring dangerous germs from one another at gatherings, such as CF events, or in public places, such as waiting rooms.
