The Center for Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction is one of the first centers in the world to formally integrate all specialties involved in providing complete care of the colon and rectum in kids, joining the teams for Colorectal Surgery, Gastroenterology, Gynecology and Urology. Over the past year, the center performed nearly 1,000 colorectal procedures and helped kids from 48 states and 31 countries from around the world.
Further reinforcing our commitment and expertise in treating pediatric colorectal conditions, Marc Levitt, MD has joined Nationwide Children’s as the Surgical Director. Dr. Levitt has performed more than 5,000 pediatric colorectal procedures, which is more surgeries covering the entire spectrum of problems involving the colon and rectum than have been performed by any other full-time practicing pediatric surgeon in the world. Medical Director Carlo Di Lorenzo, MD, is Chief of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, director of the Motility Center, and an internationally-recognized expert in pediatric motility issues. Also leading the clinical team is V. Rama Jayanthi, Chief of Urology, and Geri Hewitt, MD, Chief of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. View the full team.
The team conducts a weekly collaborative conference, for patients with functional problems and reconstructive needs, and creates custom treatment plans for each patient.
Because of the complexity of many conditions related to the colon and rectum, some children require care throughout many lifetime milestones. Our team is committed to providing optimal outcomes and quality of life from newborns, through potty training, puberty, sexual function and childbearing.
At Nationwide Children’s, every child diagnosed with a colorectal condition is handled with an individualized treatment plan. For more information or to request an appointment, please contact us.
