Hematology/Oncology & BMT
Anthony D. Villella, MD is physician in the Division of Hematology/ Oncology/BMT at Nationwide Children’s and an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University Department of Pediatrics. After graduation from medical school at The University of Pittsburgh, he completed his pediatric internship and residency at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He went on to complete a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He returned to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital after fellowship and became the director of the Sickle Cell Anemia Center; a position he held for 5 years. He also served as director of their Hemophilia Treatment Center for 2 years. He then moved to Norfolk, Virginia where he practiced pediatric hematology/oncology at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, also becoming director and co-director of the Hemophilia Treatment Center and the Sickle Cell Center respectively. Dr. Villella has expertise in treating all pediatric blood disorders, however, his passion is caring for children, adolescents, and young adults with sickle cell disease. He continues to be an active participant in sickle cell clinical research in an effort to advance the medical care and improve the quality of life for this patient population.
